In yet another ugly game, Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts were dominated by the New York Jets‘ Defense as the New York Jets went into Lucas Oil Stadium and picked up a big win, 20-7. The win puts the Jets at a 2-0 record to start the season and share the top spot of the division with the New England Patriots. The loss puts the Colts to a surprising 0-2 start and at the bottom of the division.
Although it is still early in the season, the Colts need to do a little bit of soul searching, especially Andrew Luck. Luck, like last week, turned over the ball more than the Colts would like. He was struggling on all cylinders, main reason being the Jets playing phenomenal defense throughout the whole game, including interceptions made by Safety Calvin Pryor off of a deflection from Colts receiver Andre Johnson, CB Darelle Revis on an under-thrown ball and Safety Marcus Gilchrist stepping in front of a pass down the field. The Jets also forced two fumbles and recovered them both, one off of Andrew Luck and one off of Frank Gore while at the 1-yard line in the red zone.
To be fair, it is not all Luck’s fault. His Offensive Line let him down big time in this game, especially in the Pass Blocking. Passing the ball, Luck mustered up 250 yards on 21/37 completed passes. He was pressured on almost every play by the Jets’ pass rush, getting beat on almost every play, although he was never sacked, he felt the pressure enough to play into the defense’s hands and it was costly.
The Todd Bowles led defense is working magic right now and made a great quarterback who people had on their MVP watch, look mediocre. The secondary led by Cornerback’s Darelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie are making the men under center think about throwing the football in their area and if that’s not enough, their Defensive Line is just as good, which headlines players like Muhammad Wilkerson, Calvin Pace, Quinton Coples and rookie Leonard Williams.
Ryan Fitzpatrick is also proving that he is a good fit under center for the Jets as he played a good game, not great, but good. He whipped up 244 yards on 22/34 passing with 2 touchdown passes to Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall and giving up an interception. He is veteran of this game and has played a lot of football and knows where the plays need to be. He connected with Brandon Marshall 7 times for 101 yards and a touchdown. His other favorite target Eric Decker caught the ball 8 times for 97 yards and a touchdown.
The Jets are putting together quite the campaign this year and are setting the tone for future encounters with the other teams remaining on their schedule. As of now, they are not the same old Jets anymore and it could make for an interesting season within the AFC East.
As for the Colts, they are really starting to become the Seattle Seahawks of the AFC. A team who people considered a favorite for the Super Bowl is now 0-2 to start the season, but the Colts and Colts fans shouldn’t push the panic button just yet. Remember how last year’s Patriots started their season? There is always hope, but the Colts need to make adjustments and it needs to happen quick.
